Ilon Wikland study
“At The CafĂ©” (after Ilon Wikland), color pencil on Fabriano paper ✏️ First study from an art book I received yesterday đź“– Ilon’s ability to draw soulful figures and landscapes has impressed and influenced me since I first read “The Brothers Lionheart” as a child. It was with a sense of delightful terror I turned a page to look at another drawing of Tengil’s soldiers and the dragon Katla. Of course it didn’t take long until I drew my first warrior wearing a similar helmet as one of the soldiers in the book ⚔️

Iain McCaig Study
Study of a sketch by Iain McCaig, the Star Wars concept artist and Fighting Fantasy illustrator 🤩 Such remarkable variation in line flow, weight and value in the original, learn a lot from trying to achieve similar effects digitally that a master achieves when drawing traditionally ✏️
Wish you all a great week! ☀️

Magic The Gathering (after Raoul Vitale)
Continued today... “Hieroglyphic Illumination” (after detail from Magic The Gathering card painting by Raoul Vitale).
I really enjoy establishing various surface planes and modeling form with layers upon layers of color pencils and chalk
Translating the greyscale modeling factors I am currently studying to modeling with cold and warm colors, I learn a lot from exploring the abrupt color contrast created by a hard edge, as well as the soft transition of a rounded form - achieving an ever smoother transition through the use of white chalk.
